For each month is indicated which part is counted and what part is estimated (calculated using statistical methods). The red line shows the multi-year mean. This is the average over all months of the season, from July to June of the last five seasons. Months without estimation (indicated by ?) it is assumed that there were no birds.

Buiten broedtijd
Jaarrond in hetzelfde gebied aanwezige Roodhalsganzen betreffen vermoedelijk ontsnapte vogels. Tussen oktober en mei worden ook vogels van wilde herkomst gezien. Ze verblijven doorgaans individueel of in familiegroepjes tussen andere ganzen, vaak Brandganzen of Kolganzen. De waarnemingen blijven grotendeels beperkt tot de bekende ganzenpleisterplaatsen. Over langere termijn bezien is het aantal waarnemingen toegenomen.
Broedtijd
Misschien broedt er af en toe een Roodhalsgans in ons land. Zekere broedgevallen zijn nog niet geconstateerd, maar soms waren er wel aanwijzingen daarvoor. Deze en andere waarnemingen in de broedtijd hebben doorgaans betrekking op ontsnapte vogels, herkenbaar aan een collectieringetje.

Conservation status
The Birds Directive focuses on the conservation of all naturally occurring wild bird species in Europe, including the Red-breasted Goose.
This means that EU Member States must take measures to maintain or bring the populations of these species to a level that corresponds in particular to ecological, scientific and cultural requirements.
The Birds Directive requires Member States to maintain habitats for birds of sufficient size and quality, including through the designation of Special Protection Areas for the benefit of the European Natura 2000 network. No special protection zones have been designated for the Red-breasted Goose in the Netherlands. The national population must be able to maintain itself at a favorable level.

- Alle geschikte terreindelen bezoeken
- Alleen vogels met terreinbinding tellen (dus niet hoog overvliegende)
- Min of meer vaste route door terrein, maar alert zijn op nieuw ontstane (tijdelijk) geschikte plekken
- Min of meer gelijke tijdsinspanning bij herhaalde bezoeken
- Oppassen voor verstoring (niet te dicht naderen, geen lawaai)
Bijzonderheden
- Voornamelijk solitaire of enkele vogels in grote groepen Brandgans of Kolgans, incidenteel ook als familiegroepje
- Ondanks opvallend voorkomen snel gemist in dichte groepen Brand-of Kolganzen
- Foerageert (vrijwel) uitsluitend op gras
- Drinkvluchten naar open water
