Occurrence description
Buiten broedtijd
Langs de kusten van (vooral) Noordzee en (in mindere mate) Waddenzee trekt de Kleine Jager door van half juli tot half november, met de piek tussen half augustus en begin oktober. Op dagen met harde aanlandige wind gaat het soms om honderden vogels. Waarnemingen in de rest van het jaar zijn zeldzaam, al worden Kleine Jagers vooral in Noord-Holland jaarlijks in april en mei gezien. Als echte kustvogel verschijnt de Kleine Jager maar zelden in het binnenland, het meest nog na zware westerstormen in het najaar.
