Data derived from waterbird monitoring scheme (mostly monthly counts during winter). Shown is the monthly average number of birds for for the last five seasons. For each month is indicated which part is counted and what part is estimated (calculated using statistical methods). The red line shows the multi-year mean. This is the average over all months of the season, from July to June of the last five seasons. Months without estimation (indicated by ?) it is assumed that there were no birds.
Occurrence description
Buiten broedtijd
Oeverlopers verschijnen in hoofdzaak tijdens de trekperiode. De voorjaarstrek begint half april en is eind mei vrijwel voorbij. De najaarstrek beslaat vooral juli en augustus, met wat nakomers tot in oktober. Winterwaarnemingen zijn schaars. De soort is tijdens de trek bijna overal waarneembaar langs zoetwaterplassen, rivieren en beken evenals op landaanwinningswerken en strekdammen aan de kust. Groepjes tot enige tientallen zijn niet zeldzaam, grotere concentraties zijn dat wel.
Broedtijd
De Oeverloper nestelde tot 1993 incidenteel in Nederland. Sindsdien komt hij jaarlijks tot broeden, maar de aantallen bedragen zelfs in relatief goede jaren niet meer dan 10-15 paren. Veel broedgevallen worden vastgesteld in natuurontwikkelingsterreinen, met name langs de Grote Rivieren en met de nadruk op Gelderland en Limburg. Lage voorjaarswaterstanden lijken gunstig te zijn vanwege de droogvallende oevers.

Conservation status
The Birds Directive focuses on the conservation of all naturally occurring wild bird species in Europe, including the Common Sandpiper.
This means that EU Member States must take measures to maintain or bring the populations of these species to a level that corresponds in particular to ecological, scientific and cultural requirements.
The Birds Directive requires Member States to maintain habitats for birds of sufficient size and quality, including through the designation of Special Protection Areas for the benefit of the European Natura 2000 network. No special protection zones have been designated for the Common Sandpiper in the Netherlands. The national population must be able to maintain itself at a favorable level.

Aanwijzingen
Alert zijn bij late voorjaarswaarnemingen in geschikt biotoop (stromend water, eilandjes en oevers van plassen met wilg en open slikkige bodem; soms ook in droger terrein) en letten op nestindicerend gedrag (afleidingsgedrag [broedcode 10], alarm [brc 7], pulli [brc 12]). Alarmroep en zang ('dididididi') [brc 2] onderscheiden zich van contactroep (niet territoriumindicatief) [brc 1] door niet in sterkte toe of af te nemen en langer aan te houden. Alarm evenwel soms éénlettergrepig. Paren met jongen (vooral juni) vliegen alarmerend in cirkels rond waarnemer [brc 7, 12].
LET OP: baltsende vogels kunnen doortrekkers zijn; let op of de vogels aanwezig blijven. Een waarneming van een 'paar' (tweetal) is onvoldoende. Broedvogels in eifase (in juni) zeer onopvallend; houden waarnemer van afstand in de gaten zonder te foerageren. Verschillende bezoeken tot half juli aan gebied zijn doorgaans noodzakelijk. Families kunnen zich enkele kilometers van broedplaats verwijderen [zonder relevante voorafgaande waarnemingen niet invoeren].

Broedbiologie
Gebonden aan zoetwatermilieu. Nestelt meestal langs stromende wateren (boven de gemiddelde hoogwaterlinie), soms langs stilstaande wateren (afgravingen), op zandige of stenige oevers, zowel in open terrein als gebieden met enig bos (wilgen etc.). Nest goed verstopt op wat hoger liggende delen tussen opgaande kruiden, boomstronken of aanspoelsel. Eileg begin mei tot half juni. Eén broedsel per jaar, meestal 4 eieren, broedduur 21-22 dagen, jongen (nestvlieders) na 35-40 dagen vliegvlug; worden door beide ouders verzorgd.

- Alle geschikte terreindelen bezoeken
- Alleen vogels met terreinbinding tellen (dus niet hoog overvliegende)
- Min of meer vaste route door terrein, maar alert zijn op nieuw ontstane (tijdelijk) geschikte plekken
- Min of meer gelijke tijdsinspanning bij herhaalde bezoeken
Bijzonderheden
- Solitair of in groepen tot enkele tientallen
- Weinig samen met andere steltlopers
- Gevarieerde habitatkeus binnen zoetwatermilieu, van ondiepe poelen tot sloten met slikoevers, gekanaliseerde beken en snelstromende natuurlijke beken
- Overwinteraars veel schaarser dan vaak gedacht. Verwisseling met Witgat (kan heel bruin lijken) komt dikwijls voor (let op witte ‘krul’ van Oeverloper tussen vleugel en borst)
- Lokaal gemeenschappelijke slaapplaatsen (vooral juli-augustus), wellicht echter vooral concentratie van vogels die zich verzamelen voor de wegtrek in de avond
