No conservation status applies to this species. The Wood Duck is an exotic species and therefore falls outside Article 1 of the Birds Directive, which relates to all natural wild bird species on the European territory of the EU Member States. The Wood Duck is therefore not protected under the Nature Conservation Act.

Aanwijzingen
Alle waarnemingen in broedbiotoop, met nadruk op plaatsgebonden paartje (keert na verstoring naar zelfde plek terug), broedverdacht vrouwtje (vliegt naar potentieel broedhol) en aanwijzingen voor nest: alarm, afleidingsgedrag, wijfje met zeer kleine jongen. Schuw wijfje of wijfje dat wegzwemt/wegvliegt en later terugkeert naar zelfde deelgebied is uiterst verdacht.
LET OP: Broedt in boomholten en grote nestkasten. Wijfje met kleine jongen kan binnen enkele dagen flinke afstanden afleggen.In schemering vaak verplaatsingen, met in de vlucht veelvuldig roepen.
Documentatie
Betrekkelijk weinig zekere broedgevallen bekend. Graag de hoogste broedcode opgeven.
Bijzonderheden
Exoot, afkomstig uit Noord-Amerika. Vrouwtjes kunnen gemakkelijk met die van Mandarijneend worden verwisseld. Hybridiseert soms met Wilde Eend.
Broedbiologie
Nestelt vooral in oude bomen bij plassen of langzaam stromende wateren, zowel in natuurlijke holen als grote nestkasten. Eileg begin april tot half juni. Een tot twee broedsels per jaar, meestal 9-15 eieren (soms leggen meerdere vrouwtjes in hetzelfde nest), broedduur 28-32 dagen, jongen (nestvlieders) verlaten nest na 1 dag en worden vooral door vrouwtje begeleid. Ze zijn na 60-70 dagen vliegvlug.
