Broedgevallen, zoals in 1999 bij Heerde, zijn amper bekend. Het is onduidelijk of de soort nog in ons land nestelt. Waarnemingen zijn betrekkelijk zeldzaam.

The Cape Teal is an exotic species and therefore falls outside Article 1 of the Birds Directive, which relates to all natural wild bird species on the European territory of the EU Member States. The Cape Teal is therefore not protected under the Nature Conservation Act.
