Voorkomen
Van de Kauw komen in Nederland drie ondersoorten voor. Naast de in ons land zeer algemene Kauw zijn dat de Noordse Kauw, die wintergast is, en de veel zeldzamere oostelijke ondersoort: de Russische Kauw. Determinatie is erg lastig en kan sterk lijken op de Noordse Kauw.. Het gaat jaarlijks gemiddeld om een handvol zekere waarnemingen.
